Here are some of the benefits of a catalytic converter, you should know

June 13, 2012

As your engine burns fuel, it produces many different types of different gases that have an immediate effect and it is very bad for our environment. Noxious gases are hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides. By having a catalytic converter in our emission systems we have taken the necessary precautions from polluting our environment.

The catalytic converter is installed in the exhaust lines, between the exhaust manifold and the muffler and makes use of chemicals that act as a catalyst. A catalyst is a chemical that causes a reaction between other chemicals without having any effect it self. The whole purpose of the catalytic converter is to convert the pollutants from harmful gases to environmental friendly through the tail pipe at the rear of your vehicle.

With all the harmful gases that enter into the catalytic converter that is made of stainless steel and looks like a container. The actual inside of the converter is coated with chemicals called aluminum oxide platinum and palladium, in some case you will also find the chemical called rhodium. These chemicals inside the converter will cause the carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons to change into water vapor and carbon dioxide to reduce nitrogen oxides.

Keep in mind that you can not use leaded gas with an engine that was designed to have a catalytic converter, because of the lead that coats the chemicals in the converter, since the chemicals in the lining can not come in contact with the pollutants. As car manufacturers got wiser and started using tougher parts and coating them with special metal. As we all know the lead was an excellent source of reducing wear on some of the engine parts.

The Ontario Drive Clean Program, your emission system!

June 7, 2012

The Ontario drive clean program is a mandatory vehicle emissions inspection and maintenance program. It provides many benefits to our health and the environment by reducing smog-causing pollutants through testing and repairing vehicle emission systems.

It is your responsibility of having a yearly emission test on your vehicle in order for you to renewal your registration and licence.  Consumers are protected when buying or selling their vehicle, making sure that the vehicle meets the emission standards. This way your buying a vehicle that has all of it's emission components working to the standards set out by the Ministry of Transportation.

By having your emissions tested, your protecting the environment from major domestic source of smog and several other toxic contaminants.  Smog as we all know can have a serious health consequences for many people particularly children , elderly and those with respiratory and cardiovascular illnesses.

What to do if your vehicle fails

If your vehicles doesn't meet the Emissions Standards, you will be provided vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) this will explain the areas of where your vehicle failed.  Do not leave the dealer without this piece of paper. This report is very important for you having your vehicle repaired correctly other wise you will not qualify for the $450.00 repair cost limit.

You will need to repair your vehicle either at a local garage or at an accredited Drive Clean Facility (DCF) if it is done at a non accredited facility then you will have to bring in all your receipts when you come in for a re-test. If you need more time to qualify for the $450.00 Repair Cost Limit (RCL) is the maximum you will need to spend at a DCF on emission-related repairs before obtaining a conditional pass.

Once all the repairs have been done, you can qualify for the $17.50 plus HST, but you will have to go to the same DCF location you had the original test done at, you have 120 days to take advantage or you will have fork over another $35.00 plus HST.

Read this carefully!

Once you have received your conditional pass you are ready to get the renewal registration for your vehicle and sticker for your licences plate.  With a conditional pass, your vehicle is still subject to on-road enforcement if emissions control equipment has been removed or the vehicle has visible smoke.  The conditional pass is only valid for you to renew the plate sticker under the current ownership.

June 5, 2012

This is a very rare vehicle a 1966 Acadian  Canso SD L79 one of only 83 every manufactured here in Canada with these specific options 2 door hard top with a 327 engine that produces 350 horsepower. This vehicle still has the original local owner who bought it from his brother back in 1966. I was provided today with the opportunity to review each component of this vehicle and provide my professional appraisal value of this vehicle in today's market.

I was totally impressed with the overall condition of this vehicle, how all the components where all original and the absolutely beauty and condition of this vehicle. He has modified the vehicle in some areas, such as adding a 4 speed Hurst shifter, new gauges and new carpet other then that it is all pretty much from day one. He also had the rear suspension leaf spring bushings replaced with "Polygrahite".

Why oil spraying your vehicle makes sense.

June 4, 2012

Undercoating your vehicle is one the smartest things you can do to protecting your vehicle and keeping all your repairs at a vast reduction. The main reason is that when you do have your vehicle undercoated your providing lubrication to all major and functional components such as wiring, lights and electrical items.

Some of the major components that are protected when you do have your vehicle oil sprayed, this will ensure that they operate freely. Windows and all door mechanisms, door locks, electrical systems, brake cables, Linkage for transmission, remote mirrors, door hinges, hood and truck hinges, reduces friction on all moving parts, power antennas and C.V. joints.

Some of the other major components that are protected when you have your vehicle sprayed is the following items. All body panels, spot welds, all chrome, cowl assemblies, headlight pots and adjusters, transmission case, oil pans, sub-frame and hidden box sections, inner frame work, wiring connections and computer chips.

With all the above benefits that oil spraying your vehicle provides and protecting your investment, vehicles that have been oil sprayed from day one always have a higher re-sale value when your re selling or trading in your vehicle. The main reason is your vehicle looks better then most vehicles on the road because you took the time to protect your investment.

I hope this provides enough information for you to take some time and research the pros and cons of having your vehicle oil sprayed each year, is it worth it. Only you can make that decision my answer is it is an absolutely one of the most important features you can do to making your vehicle last as long as it will.

Here some pictures of what happens when you do not oil spray or rustproof your vehicle

As you can see the undercarriage looks
old and rusty.

This could of been prevented
the rocker panel is completely rotten

The other side is the same way
if you had oil sprayed it would not look like this
As you can see all the corrosion has developed
cause brake lines to rust out and leak. Could of been prevented
had he oil sprayed his truck!
